The second annual OKC Restaurant Week, presented by Central Oklahoma Cadillac Dealers, cooked up $7,200 worth of kindness that will help fight childhood hunger. From June 9-18, nearly 30 Oklahoma City restaurants donated $1 for every prix fixe lunch and $2 for every prix fixe dinner to the Regional Food Bank of Oklahoma’s Food for Kids programs.
“The Food for Kids Program is such a deserving recipient of this year’s donations,” said James Bengfort Associate Publisher Oklahoma Gazette. “I don’t think the general public grasp the level of need in central Oklahoma” Bengfort continued. The Gazette is proud to have played a part in filling some of the need.
Participating restaurants included: Aria Lounge, Barrios Fine Mexican Dishes, Broadway 10 Bar & Chophouse, Cheever’s Cafe, Chef Curry To Go, Chick -N- Beer, E. S. Founder’s Restaurant inside Embassy Suites Medical Center, FLINT – Colcord Hotel, Iron Star Urban BBQ, Kitchen No. 324, La Brasa, Naylamp Peruvian Restaurant, On the Border Mexican Grill & Cantina, Paseo Grill, Red Prime Steak, Republic Gastropub Chisholm Creek, Republic Gastropub Classen Curve, Rococo, Sauced on Paseo, Texas de Brazil, The Drake, The Meat Market Refectory, The Melting Pot, Vast, Viceroy Grille – Ambassador Hotel, VZD’s Restaurant & Bar and Yokozuna Chisholm Creek.
This is the second year the Oklahoma Gazette’s Restaurant Week proceeds benefitted the Food for Kids programs, which includes the Summer Feeding program. This program provides free meals to children 18 and under over the long summer months, when free and reduced price meals are not available at school. This summer, more than 120 sites in central and western Oklahoma are providing meals for children.
“One in four children in Oklahoma faces hunger every day,” said Katie Fitzgerald, chief executive officer of the Regional Food Bank of Oklahoma. “No child should ever have to wonder where their next meal would come from. Thank you to the Oklahoma Gazette, sponsors, chefs, restaurants and patrons who participated in Restaurant Week to help fight childhood hunger in our state.”
OKC Restaurant Week was presented by Central Oklahoma Cadillac Dealers. Sponsors included: Tequila Herradura, Kendall-Jackson and Shiner Beers, Oklahoma Restaurant Association, Oklahoma Shirt Company, the Made in Oklahoma Coalition, and the Oklahoma City Convention and Visitors Bureau.
It’s never too late to join the fight against childhood hunger in Oklahoma. Volunteers are also needed every weekday to pack 6,000 meals for the Summer Feeding program.
